This week I have to send out online invitations for a friend's baby shower so I was generally browsing for a good site, preparing the format in my mind etc. Till now, I had only used Evite (http://www.evite.com/) for online invites but that site royally sucks. Receiving invitations on Evite is fine I guess - cuz you just have to click on the link and RSVP. But I used it once as the organizer and the experience was downright painful. First of all the layout is horrendous, you can't change the fonts, it adds line breaks anywhere in your message, it has changed the hostname arbitrarily on me once, it sometimes sends out messages to all guests when you just want to send it to the newly added guests - overall it sucks!
So while browsing for other online invitations sites, I just got frustrated and searched for "evite sucks" on google and guess what I found? http://www.evitesucks.com/ so it's not just me :)) People have actually created a site expressing their displeasure :)) The good part is that from this site, I was able to find a decent alternative - http://www.socializr.com/ which is what I used now to create a good enough invite. It looks nice and clean and decent and professional - not like something created as a high school project. Even Socializr can do with some improvements - specifically I should be able to change the fonts in the text box where I enter the message and not at some later point navigating through two extra screens. Also, changing backgrounds/text options etc, should show up a preview on the same page before you click Save - see that it's not something you like and have to go back and change it again. BUT - this site will do for now. My sanity is restored and I can stop getting worked up over Evite!

Hi,
I am part of the team at www.PurpleTrail.com - an online invitations service.
Would love to get your feedback on PurpleTrail.
Especially where you think it is as compared to evite and Socializr.
Thanks

Hi Anuj,
I did try out PurpleTrail today - must say I am impressed with some of the features. I like the text formatting - it's better than Socializr because font changes are in the same screen however Socializr has more font options. Also Socializr has the ability to play with different backgrounds/ colors. Both sites have a good collection of crisp and cool images unlike Evite's cliparts. I really liked the "send test preview email to yourself" feature of PurpleTrail. Managing the invitation is good and straightforward in both sites. Deal breaker for me was the invitation email itself - PurpleTrail needs to improve the look and feel of the email - Socializr wins in this category. Hope this helps!
Hey guys. just stumbled across your post, and would have to agree that evite is lacking in a few areas.
I've found an Australian website called myinvites.com.au that have beautiful invites.
There are a few extra bits missing like changing font type and color, however it is easy to use and the invites are skewed for towards women with some really girly invites. check it out.

Hi Isn't evite the movie starring madonna? What do you have against her?
Also I had all answers to Quiz 2 right and should be declared the winner. Please recheck my answers, technically none is wrong.

eee - If you don't like white, go black.
Bond Junkie/Kedar,
First of all that movie is Evita.. so I don't have anything against her, but what do you have for her that you remember her movie from an online invitations website? :P and what do you mean by your 2nd comment btw?
i know its evita. I meant, "Eh, white sucks"
In Evite to create a line break, type <'br' / >
(without the quotes) before the new line.
If you want a blank line in between, then you can type
<'br' /><'br' /> (without the quotes)
If you want to make something bold, type <'strong'> (without the quotes) immediately before the word without a space between <'strong'> and the word.
This is HTML so I had to type this with quotes so that it would not execute the command.
Hope this helps!
i had the same problem with evite but as a solution i fudged the url to work with the garbage evite was adding.
so if you have a url you want to put into the text for example "http://www.google.ca/search?q=food" evite will break it, so to trick evite add "?bla=" or "&bla=" at the end of your url. So you write your url like http://www.google.ca/search?q=food&bla=
then when evite adds it's crap to your url, it will hopefully be ignored. Hope that helps :)
